During Rural Housing Week in July 2018 Sevenoaks District Council showcased a number of its initatives designed to keep our rural communities vibrant.
Gibbs Field is a rural execption site in Leigh near Tonbridge. It has enabled many local people to remain in the village and part of their community. We were joined by Age UK who are funded by Sevenoaks Council to provide 'pop up' advice to older people on preventing falls and other issues.
Local MP: Tom Tugendhat joined us to launch our new scheme: Shop Safe, Stay Safe ID scheme. By working with local shops the council can help older and vulnerable people if they become lost or confused while out shopping. When people sign up to the scheme they provide contact details of their next of kin who can be contacted them in the event of a problem.
Together with our housing strategy these schemes provide simple, wrap around support to help older people and disabled people live as independently and part of their community for as long as possible.
As Cabinet Member for Housing and Health I was so proud of the difference we were making to peoples' lives across the District.
